My love affair with zinfandel continues. In fact, I'm drinking  the last little bit of this bottle right now. Another Trader Joe's exclusive: The 2012 Old Moon Zinfandel.

There was no special circumstance surrounding this bottle's purchase or selection from our wine fridge. It was a Wednesday night, I'd just cleaned up the kitchen, and we were sitting down to watch a documentary. Well, yes, as a matter of fact it was Somm.

Perhaps that is the special circumstance for this wine. Or any genuinely inexpensive, but genuinely enjoyable wine. Of course I have bottles tucked away that I know will be amazing, but I do find it a little hard to open them when I'm just going to sit on the couch. An under $10 wine, though? Those I can open up for just about anything with a clean conscience, and it's just a nice pat on the back from the universe when it isn't a chore to drink it.

This zinfandel is a typical rich ruby color. The nose is woody, but light overall. On the palate is a robust mix of plum, spiced fig, and also some licorice. It is medium-bodied, with a medium finish length.

For the record, it's still quite good two days later. Apologies for not providing a website -- I can't locate this one on Trader Joe's site, so they may have discontinued. Go get it while you can!
